A Child's Place

Once a year the Salem Fire Department visits the school to teach the kids about fire safety.  The children really enjoy this special treat!

Our Business

The concept of A Child's Place began when founder Julie Hutt realized she could provide a service to Salem area residents which differs from the majority of the local preschools:  experienced, quality teaching and care of children from a home based environment.  Her business plan revolves around a unique three-prong model:  Individual attention to each student within small class sizes, a home centered learning atmosphere, and building strong supportive parternships with parents.   

Who We Are

A native of Salem Oregon, Julie Hutt has over 20 years' experience teaching and tutoring children.  She graduated from Chemeketa Community College in 1976 with an Associates of Science Degree in Early Chilhood Education.  In 1996 Julie graduated from Western Baptist Bible College (now Corbin College) with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Family Studies.  She has extensive experience as a preschool teacher and childcare provider from her work over the last 20 years, most recently with Salem Academy Christian School as the Site Director/Preschool teacher.  In addtion, Julie teaches a variety of  parenting classes to church groups and preschool families.  Volunteer work is prominent in Julie's life as well, as evidenced by her work with the Womens Crisis Center and her ongoing contributions to her church.    

In her spare time, Julie enjoys working in her garden, reading and enjoying the cultural arts in Ashland, Oregon when possible.   Julie's daughter Heather is in her Sophmore year at Oregon State University (Go Beavers!) and is studying to be a veterinarian.  Julie shares her school with her young Black Lab, Lily and elderly feline friend, Joy.
